Number of Awards & Eligibility: All eligible students will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must be the child or widowed spouse of a Massachusetts police officer, firefighter, or corrections officer who was killed or died from injuries received while performing his/her duties (includes authorized training duty) OR the child of a prisoner of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA) in Southeast Asia whose wartime service was credited to the Commonwealth and whose service was between Feb. 1, 1955 and the termination of the Vietnam campaign OR is the child of a veteran whose service was credited to the Commonwealth and who was killed in action (KIA) or died as a result of such service.
  5. Must plan to attend a Massachusetts college or university.
  6. Must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits or its equivalent) in an eligible institution.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older and be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.

Description: This award is avialable to Massachusetts undergraduate students who are planning to enroll full-time at a Massachusetts college or university. Students must have a parent and or spouse who is killed or missing in the line of public service duty in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Additional Information: The Massachusetts Public Service Grant Program was established in recognition of the hardship that a family experiences upon the loss of a parent and or spouse who is killed or missing in the line of public service duty in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This grant program was established to provide educational opportunity to the remaining family members. Eligible students must not in default of any Federal or State loan or owe a refund for any previous financial aid received and be in compliance with Selective Service Registration requirements.

Award Amount: For a student attending a Massachusetts public college or university, the award amount is equal to the cost of the institution's full-time annual tuition charges. For a student attending a Massachusetts Independent College or University, the award amount is equal to the full-time annual tuition charge at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst not to exceed $2,500 per academic year. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until the completion of a degree, whichever comes first. Recipients must complete the FAFSA and reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.
