Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  5. Must be between the ages of 17 and 21.
  6. Must be a legal New Mexico resident for one or more years.
  7. Must have been in the New Mexico foster care system for one or more years at the time of his/her 18th birthday.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: New Mexico residents who are high school seniors or older, ages 17 to 21 who have been in the New Mexico foster care system for a minimum of one year at the time of their 18th birthday. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Additional Information: The Nelson’s student aid fund will make awards to young adults out of foster care who want to develop a marketable skill or continue their education at a post-secondary school. They hope they can positively impact the lives of young people who have already suffered from the insecurity of an unstable childhood.

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
