Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a current 4-H member.
  3. Preference is given to applicants who are outstanding 4-H members from General Shelton's home county of Edgecombe (NC), or who are from Cumberland County, NC, the home of Fort Bragg.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must plan to attend North Carolina State University or a U.S. military academy.
  6. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors who are 4-H members and plan to attend North Carolina State University or a U.S. military academy. Preference is given to applicants from Edgecombe and Cumberland counties.

Application requirements for the General Henry Hugh Shelton 4-H Leadership Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Photograph
  • Test scores
  • Resume
Additional Information: Please note: All eligible students must have filed an application for admission to at least one institution of higher learning, and must arrange for and take the SAT and/or ACT. It is the student's responsibility to make all arrangements for college admissions. Selection will be based on the following: 4-H record (50 percent); scholastic achievement as measured by performance in high school courses (25 percent); and college aptitude as measured by performance on college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT (25 percent). Recipients will be selected in March. Recipients must attend the 4-H Scholarships and Awards Luncheon held during the N.C. 4-H Congress and the luncheon at the annual Shelton Shelton Forum in the fall. Recipients may be required to attend the CALS Donor Recognition Event in the fall.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. All 4-H scholarships will be paid directly to the college or university. They will not be made payable to the recipient nor his/her parents.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
