Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Mitchell County, NC.
  3. Must be a 4-H member.
  4. Must attend an accredited institution of higher learning in North Carolina.
  5. Must plan to enroll full time.
  6. First preference will be given to a student who has worked with the Mitchell County 4-H "Discovery" program. If no such student applies, preference will be given to a student enrolling as a college freshman. If no freshmen are eligible, the award may be given to an upperclassman.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for residents of Mitchell County, North Carolina who are 4-H members or staff members and plan to attend an institution in North Carolina as a freshman. If no freshman is eligible, then an upperclassman may be awarded the scholarship.

Application requirements for the Mitchell County 4-H ‘Discovery’ Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Photograph
  • Test scores
  • Resume
Additional Information: Please note: All eligible students must have filed an application for admission to at least one institution of higher learning, and must arrange for and take the SAT and/or ACT. It is the student's responsibility to make all arrangements for college admissions. Selection will be based on the following: 4-H record (50 percent); scholastic achievement as measured by performance in high school courses (25 percent); and college aptitude as measured by performance on college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT (25 percent). Recipients will be selected in March. Recipients must attend the 4-H Scholarships and Awards Luncheon held during the N.C. 4-H Congress. Recipients may be required to attend the CALS Donor Recognition Event in the fall.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. All 4-H scholarships will be paid directly to the college or university. They will not be made payable to the recipient nor his/her parents.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.
