In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Oregon.
  4. Must plan to attend or be attending a licensed school in Oregon that participates in federal Title IV financial aid programs.
  5. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a barbering, hair design, cosmetology, or manicure program.
  6. Must enroll on a full-time basis in a program that is at least 9 months long or requires 900 or more clock hours.
  7. Must be a high school graduate or older.
  8. Must demonstrate significant financial need.

Description: This grant is available to Oregon residents who are currently attending or planning to attend a licensed school of barbering, hair design, cosmetology, or manicure in Oregon. The student must enroll full time and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The Barber and Hairdresser Grant Program is a state program, administered through the Oregon Student Assistance Commission, established to provide financial assistance to residents of Oregon who are attending a licensed school of barbering, hair design, cosmetology, or manicure in Oregon. The award is based on the financial need of the student. Because of limited funds, only students with a significant need for financial help receive Barber and Hairdresser Grants. The number of Grants awarded depends on interest earned through state Barber and Hairdresser funds. Students selected for an award will be notified by the school. Eligible student must not be: currently in prison; concurrently enrolled in high school and the beauty or barbering program; in default on any Title IV funds, including Stafford loans.

Award Amount: Varies, based on the amount of funding available but typically ranges from $100 to $1,500 annually with an average grant award of $1,000, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
