Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  4. Must demonstrate a critical financial need. $55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; a written explanation must be provided if income is higher.
  5. Must be a resident of Texas.
  6. Must attend high school in Texas.
  7. Must be enrolled full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter no later than the fall semester following graduation.

Additional Information: The Horatio Alger Texas Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the state of Texas who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. This scholarship program is funded through the generosity of the Ebby Halliday Scholarship Fund. The applicant must have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution. The student may begin his/her studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. Each applicant must demonstrate involvement in co-curricular and community activities.

Award Amount: The total value of this award $10,000 paid out in installments annually. If the student receives this award he/she is guaranteed the funding for the full 5 years of his/her undergraduate program by maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. This award is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
