In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Rene Hernandez Scholarship is available for first-generation Hispanic students who attend a high school in Travis and Williamson counties of Texas. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Additional Information: The Rene Hernandez Scholarship is available for Hispanic students in Travis or Williamson counties in Texas. Applicants must be the first in their families to attend college, and must demonstrate superior academic potential through a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) or 4.0 or higher (on a 5.0 scale). Award selection will be based on a combination of academic achievement, unmet financial need, as well as the quality of submitted essays and/or recommendation letters. The Austin Community Foundation has provided more than $6.5 million in scholarship awards since the scholarship program began in 1996. Each year, more than 400 new awards worth in excess of $600,000 are provided through a variety of programs designed to assist students in the Austin, Texas area and beyond.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.
