In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Texas residents who are graduating from an accredited Texas high school and rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. Students must plan to enroll full time in a Texas public two- or four-year college or university, and demonstrate financial need.

Application requirements for the Texas Top 10 Percent Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: Texas's Top 10 Percent Scholarship was established by the state legislature to recognize and reward the top performing students within the state. In addition to all other requirements, the student must complete the Recommended or Distinguished Achievement high school curriculum and demonstrate financial need (as determined by his/her college or university financial aid office). Financial need is calculated using the information provided from the student's FAFSA or TASFA. Students will be notified on their financial aid award notification received from the college to which they apply.

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 per academic year. Renewal awards are contingent on available funding, students must reapply each year to be considered. To renew the award, students must meet the following criteria: complete 30 semester hours in the previous year; maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher; and complete at least 75 percent of credit hours attempted. Qualifying students with a declared major in a critical workforce shortage field (teaching shortage area, nursing, allied health, science, technology, engineering, and math) may be eligible for a bonus of $2,000. The total award amount for students with declared majors in shortage fields may not exceed $4,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
