Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually based on the number of eligible applicants and legislative funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The student must not have any individual grade listed on his/her official transcript that is lower than a "C" in the required core courses.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must enroll in 15 or more college credit hours during the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
  4. Must enroll at one of the following eligible Utah colleges or universities: Dixie State College, Salt Lake Community College, Snow College, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Valley University, Weber State University, Brigham Young University-Provo, LDS Business College, or Westminster College.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application.
  6. Must complete the Utah Scholars Curriculum during grades 9-12.
  7. This award is for U.S. students.
  8. Must have at least one reported ACT score. SAT scores are not accepted.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for Utah high school seniors who are planning to enroll at four-year public Utah institutions, BYU-Provo, LDS Business College, or Westminster College. Students must complete a required high school curriculum, have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and have at least one ACT score.

Application requirements for the Utah Regents Scholarship Base Award are:

Additional Information: The Regents' Scholarship is a tiered award system composed of a Base award, Exemplary Academic Achievement award, and a Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP) supplemental award. Students can qualify for any of the following combination of awards: the Base only; Base and UESP; Base and Exemplary; or Base, Exemplary, and UESP. An eligible student must have no criminal record except misdemeanor traffic citations. The application review begins once all required documents have been submitted. The purpose of the initial review is to determine if the student is on-track to earn the scholarship. All students will receive notification of the outcome of the initial review no later than May 1. This notification is NOT an official award notice. If the student has not received a letter by May 1, it is his/her responsibility to contact the UBOR office to inquire about the status of his/her application. If he/she does not call, the student risks forfeiting consideration for the scholarship. Students who are found to be "on-track" will receive instructions regarding the final verification documentation that is required to be submitted by July 1. These documents are required to determine that the student has followed through and completed the course work he/she reported on his/her application. If the student chooses to deviate from the information provided on his/her application, it may have a negative impact on eligibility. Once all final verification documents are submitted, a final review is conducted to determine if the student has met the requirements, and if so which award(s) he/she has earned. Notifications regarding the final review are generally sent no later than Sept. 15.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: The award amounts are determined on an annual basis and are subject to legislative funding and the total number of qualified participants. Therefore, award amounts may be reduced, may vary from year to year, and are dependent on when the recipient is enrolled in college.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
