Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards vary.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior intending to pursue a higher education at a college, university, or technical/trade school.
  2. Must be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
  3. Must be a U.S. ciitzen or permanent resident.

Description: Since 2008 the Foundation has awarded over $1.75 million in scholarships to students with Type 1 diabetes, $1,000 to $5,000 each. The Diabetes Scholars became a program of Beyond Type 1. Scholarships are open to high school seniors headed to college/university and who live with Type 1 diabetes.

Additional Information: The scholarships are open to those who meet the following criteria: • High School Seniors with Type 1 diabetes seeking a higher education at an accredited four year university, college, technical or trade school. • U.S. citizen or permanent resident. • Recipients are selected based on activities, grades, volunteering, advocacy, leadership, essays and recommendations from both a physician/CDE treating them as well as from a high school teacher/counselor. • Diabetes Scholars scholarships are not based on financial need. • Recipients only will be telephoned no later than June 1, 2020.. Those applicants not selected will not receive any other notification • Checks will be distributed directly to the school in July once it’s been verified that the recipients have been accepted and registered

Award Amount: Amounts up to $5000 are given.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
