Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 3,692 awards offered annually. All students who qualify are awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must reside in Miami-Dade County in Florida.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must earn a standard high school diploma, GED, or home-schooled diploma during the May through July period.
  5. Must have a cumulative high school weighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must plan to attend Miami Dade College.
  7. Must enroll full time (12 or more credits each semester).

Description: U.S. students who are residents of Miami-Dade County (FL) and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must file the FAFSA and meet minimum course placement scores.

Application requirements for the Miami Dade College American Dream Scholarship are:

Additional Information: All students must meet minimum test scores on approved standardized tests, even if DevEd exempted (do not have placement scores for ENC 1101 and/or MAT 1033 or higher). Any combination of the highest available CPT/PERT, ACT, and SAT scores are used in determining the student's readiness (college ready) in the skill area.

Award Amount: The scholarship covers only in-state tuition and eligible class fees remaining after all other scholarships, financial aid, grants, and Florida Prepaid College Plan funds have been applied. The scholarship pays only tuition and class fees and is not disbursable in cash. For students not eligible for in-state tuition, the scholarship covers the in-state tuition portion and eligible class fees if all other requirements are met. The scholarship pays for 60 college-level credits.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,093.

There is not a separate application for this award. A student will be considered upon admission to Miami Dade College. Applications for admission are available from the Miami Dade College website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit final high school transcripts, proof of Florida residency, standardized test scores, and a $30 college credit admission application fee. Bachelor's degree applicants must submit a Bachelor's Degree Additional Admission Application Fee of $25. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date, even if they are not qualified for federal financial aid. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. After completing the above steps, the student must register for classes for the fall term. All requirements must be completed by Aug. 20.
