Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be enrolled in a funeral service or mortuary science program.
  4. Must have completed at least one semester (or quarter) of study in his/her program AND must have at least one term or semester remaining which will commence after the award date (April or September) in order to be considered for a full award. (Students with less than a full term of study remaining will be considered for partial awards.)
  5. Must be enrolled in a program accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education. Students in coordinated programs are only eligible for an award during the period of attendance at the American Board accredited institution. A listing of accredited programs is available online at www.abfse.org/html/directory.html.

Additional Information: A student must have completed at least one semester (or quarter) of study in a program in funeral service or mortuary science education accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education in order to be eligible. If a student is in a coordinated program he/she is only eligible for an award during the period of attendance at the American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited institution. An eligible applicant must also have one or more terms or semesters remaining in his/her program which will commence after the award date (April or September) in order to be considered for a full award. Students with less than a full term of study remaining will be considered for partial awards. The scholarship committee takes into consideration these factors: financial need, academic performance, extracurricular and/or community activities, letter of recommendation, and the articulateness of the scholarship application. Applicants are notified approximately one month after the committee meeting.

Award Amount: $500 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable. Students may apply once per calendar year for consideration.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
