Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to seven awards offered annually.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Students who are juniors and/or seniors in a metallurgy or materials science engineering program and are members of ASM International are eligible for this award. Applications are available on the ASM Materials Education Foundation website.

Application requirements for the George A. Roberts Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Photo
Additional Information: The selection committee considers a variety of factors including academic achievement (grades, courses selected, and interdisciplinary skills/interests), interest in the field (knowledge of the metallurgy/materials engineering field, demonstrated interest through activities/jobs, and potential for a related career) and personal qualities (motivation, social values, maturity, and goals).

Award Amount: $6,000 annually, non-renewable. The recipient may reapply for consideration the following year. No applicant may receive more than two consecutive scholarship awards.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $42,000.
