Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in one of the following eastern Tennessee counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier, or Union.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be majoring in nursing.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program at the time of education.
  6. Must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Description: The Ruby A. Brown Memorial Scholarship is available for current nursing students residing in eastern Tennessee. Applicants must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Additional Information: The Ruby A. Brown Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 by Mr. Carroll Brown to honor his wife and her twenty-five years as a public health nurse. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend school in Tennessee and work in the East Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.

Award Amount: $6,700 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,700.
