Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Carmel High School, Monterey High School, Pacific Grove High School, Seaside High School, or Stevenson School.
  2. Must plan to major in and show a strong interest in science, technology, engineering, business or entrepreneurship.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Alan and Rita Shugart Memorial Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors who have a GPA of 2.8 or higher and plan to major in science, technology, engineering, business or entrepreneurship. Applicants must attend Carmel High School, Monterey High School, Pacific Grove High School, Seaside High School, or Stevenson School in the Monterey area of California. Additional Information: This award is provided in memory of Alan and Rita Shugart, and is funded through a generous donation provided by Alan Shugart. Alan was a California Native and early IBM employee who went on to found Seagate Technology, Inc. Selection for this award will be based on a student's demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in business, technology, or science, through a combination of academic achievement and a record of participation in related clubs, social groups, or academic organizations. The Community Foundation for Monterey County is home to more than 45 named scholarship funds, all designed to assist students in the local community who are pursuing higher education. Each year, more than 125 individual scholarships are awarded through these funds to a variety of students of diverse backgrounds, interests, and career goals.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to four additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
