Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be attending or be a graduate of Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Hawaii.
  3. Must major in education.
  4. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii undergraduate and graduate students who are currently attending as a high school senior or are graduates of Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Hawaii. Students must major in education and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship fund was established in December 2002 with gifts from Mr. Shoma Hotta and family and the friends of Elsie S. Yoshizawa Hotta. The purpose of the scholarship is to honor the life of Elsie S. Yoshizawa Hotta, beloved wife, mother and grandmother and outstanding and devoted teacher, through scholarship awards for graduates of Baldwin High School interested in teaching. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August. Applications open in November annually.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
