Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a long-time resident of the Hamakua Coast on the island of Hawai'i. Preference will be given to Honoka'a High School graduates.
  3. Must plan to attend a college or vocational school on the island of Hawai'i.
  4. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are long-time residents of the Hamakua Coast on the island of Hawai'i and plan to attend a college or vocational school on the island of Hawai'i. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: Fletcher Hoffman worked for many years for Honoka'a Sugar Company and Fritzi Hoffman was a nurse at the Honoka'a Hospital. Their desire in setting up this scholarship fund was to benefit the youth of the families who were impacted by the closing of the sugar plantations. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.
