Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must intend to enroll in a recognized university program (according to his/her country or region).
  3. Must intend to enroll in an undergraduate degree program in petroleum engineering.
  4. Recipients are typically in the top three percent in class ranking.
  5. Recipients are typically in the top three percent in standardized test scores.
  6. Must comply with the SPE sanction policy, which states that scholarships cannot be awarded to students in countries sanctioned by the U.S. and E.U. because there are persons involved in providing these services who may be prohibited by U.S. or E.U. laws. Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. and international students who plan to enter a university and pursue a degree in petroleum engineering. Recipients are typically in the top 3 percent in both class ranking and standardized test scores.

Application requirements for the Gus Archie Scholarship Program are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Doc. of entry exam (if appl.)
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: Students must become a member of the SPE once they are eligible. Membership information is available online at www.spe.org/join. The recipient will be notified and posted on the SPE website by June 15.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, renewable for three additional years. Recipients must meet the following criteria each semester: be enrolled in a petroleum engineering class by the beginning of the second year of university; remain in a petroleum engineering degree program; maintain at least 2/3 of a full academic load; maintain a satisfactory average of scores/marks for the current semester and cumulative total.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.
