Number of Awards & Eligibility: Eight awards will be offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall semester following graduation.
  3. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a resident of Iowa.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must demonstrate a critical financial need. $55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; a written explanation must be provided if income is higher.
  7. Must attend high school in Iowa.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Application requirements for the Horatio Alger Iowa Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The award is funded through the generosity of the Members of the Horatio Alger Association. The applicant must have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution. The applicant must also plan to enter college no later than the fall following high school graduation. Each applicant must demonstrate involvement in co-curricular and community activities. Scholarship recipients will be announced in January.

Award Amount: The total value of this award is $10,000, paid out in installments annually. If the student receives this award he/she is guaranteed the funding for the full 5 years of his/her undergraduate program by maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. This award is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
