Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), or eligible non-citizen (as defined by FAFSA). Information on eligible non-citizenship statuses for FAFSA purposes is available online at studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/non-us-citizens.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher if a high school student OR a grade point average of 3.0 or higher if an undergraduate/graduate student.
  4. Must enroll full time in an accredited non-profit four-year university or graduate school during the fall of the scholarship cycle year.
  5. Must be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino. Hispanic/Latino is an ethnic category, not a racial category; students may be of any race. For purposes of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, students must be from a family whose ancestors came from at least one of these countries: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Spain, Uruguay, or Venezuela.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior, a community college transfer student, an undergraduate student, or a graduate student.

Description: Scholarships awarded through this program are available on a competitive basis to graduating high school seniors, undergraduate students, community college transfer students, and graduate students who are of Hispanic heritage. The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: All majors and graduate fields are accepted, with an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) majors. Students may be pursuing a second degree (bachelor's, master's, etc.); students will be required to report the first degree on their scholarship application. While applicants may be considered for multiple scholarships, each applicant may only receive one award per academic year. Award notification will take place in June and July. Recipients will be required to verify their enrollment status in August through October. Awards will be distributed in November and December.

Award Amount: Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000. The award amount varies based on the recipient's relative financial need. Some awards may be renewable; students will be notified of renewal requirements if necessary.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in December for a refreshed application deadline date. Program information is available on the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) website. The student must use the HSF's online application system to apply for this award. First-time users must create a username and password before beginning a scholarship application. All other students must log in using their username and password to access the application. All students are required to submit a copy of their financial aid award letter and their SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All students are also required to provide contact information for two recommenders. One recommender must be an academic reference; the other may be any person who is not a family member, friend, or co-worker. Instructions for completing the electronic Recommendation Form will be emailed to the recommender. The application must be submitted via the HSF online system by the deadline date.
