Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend a college or university in Arizona.
  2. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.
  3. Must be African-American.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be majoring in public administration, public affairs, public policy, political science, or urban and metropolitan studies

Additional Information: The Jacques Avent Scholarship is provided by and funded by the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, Central Arizona Chapter (CAC). The award is designed to increase the number of black students who graduate and become senior management or executive level employees in public service organizations, public administration, and other administrative jobs. Please note: recipients will be required to attend CAC events, especially the Marks of Excellence Dinner in the fall. The date of the dinner will be announced at a later time. The Arizona Community Foundation provides scholarships for high school seniors and current college students throughout Arizona. Selection for awards is based primarily on academic records, financial need (as demonstrated by the FAFSA paperwork), and the quality of other submission items such as essays and recommendation letters.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply and may receive priority for future awards.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
