Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of eligible students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be 24 years of age or younger at the start of the academic year.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must be or have been in the custody of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and have been adopted through DCF.
  5. Must attend or plan to attend a Massachusetts public college or university.
  6. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in an undergraduate degree, certificate or short-term certificate program, or be taking non-credit courses. Eligible courses include any state-supported course offered by an institution at a public college or university, excluding all graduate courses and courses in the MD program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
  7. Must have been adopted by an eligible Massachusetts state employee or eligible Massachusetts resident. Detailed information on eligible adopters is available on the MOSFA website.

Description: This award is available to Massachusetts undergraduate students who are 24 years of age or younger and plan to enroll or are currently enrolled at a Massachusetts public college or university in a degree, certificate, or non-credit program. Students must have been in the custody of the Department of Children and Families and have been adopted by a Massachusetts resident or employee.

Additional Information: The Adopted Child Tuition Waiver and Fee Assistance Program is designed to lessen the financial burden on adopting parents in the Commonwealth. Eligible students must: not have received a prior bachelor's degree or its equivalent; not be in default of any federal or state student loans or owe a refund for any previous financial aid received; be in good standing and meet the institution's requirements for satisfactory academic progress.

Award Amount: This award is in the form of a tuition waiver that covers 100 percent of the resident tuition rate. Awards are subject to budgetary appropriation and can only be applied to eligible state-supported courses offered at the participating public higher education institutions.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,321.
