Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a North Dakota resident.
  4. Must attend a public, private, or tribal college in North Dakota.
  5. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must be enrolled as a first-time undergraduate student. A first-time undergraduate student is an individual who has not yet received a bachelor's degree.
  7. Must demonstrate unmet financial need, based on federal methodology.
  8. Must graduate from a North Dakota high school or receive GED from the state of North Dakota.

Description: This award is available to North Dakota first-time undergraduate students who attend a North Dakota postsecondary institution. Students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible.

Additional Information: This program is also known as the State Grant Program. Applicants are ranked in descending order according to "unmet need." State Grant funds are awarded (provided other eligibility requirements are met) to those applicants with the highest unmet need, continuing down the list until no grant funds remain or all eligible students have been funded. Applicants who, because of a medically certifiable disability, may enroll at an accredited institution of higher education outside of North Dakota which offers the individual special services or facilities not available in this state, provided the institution offers a program of instruction equal to at least two academic years.

Award Amount: Up to $975 per semester or $650 per quarter, based on enrollment status. Students may reapply each year by completing a FAFSA. Eligibility is limited to 8 semesters or 12 quarters of full-time equivalent undergraduate enrollment, or the attainment of a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,314.
