Additional Information: The Rhode Island Academic Promise Program is designed to provide grants to those students whose family resources are not sufficient to meet the costs of higher education. All students who file a FAFSA by the deadline and list Rhode Island as the legal state of residence will automatically be considered for the state grant program. Students must have a RIHEAA calculated financial need of at least $1,000 to be eligible for a RI state award. The Financial need formula is calculated using tuition and fees, plus a Standard Living Allowance, minus the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), minus estimated Pell Grant. The RI state standard living allowance for dependent students is $5000 and for independent students is $6,000. The EFC is calculated by the U.S. Department of Education using information provided on the FAFSA.

Award Amount: Award amounts range from $250 to $750 annually. Awards can be renewed for up to three years (four years if a student is enrolled in a bona fide five-year program of study) if the student files a new FAFSA, continues to meet all eligibility requirements and maintains satisfactory progress as defined by the institution of enrollment.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.
