Number of Awards & Eligibility: An average of five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must demonstrate a dedication to the interests of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning community through significant personal growth, public commitment, and activism.
  5. Must be a high school senior who will earn a diploma or GED by the start of the upcoming school year.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Vermont high school seniors who demonstrate, through significant personal growth, public commitment, and/or activism, a dedication to the interests of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning community.

Application requirements for the Samara Fund Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
Additional Information: The Samara Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation established this scholarship to support Vermont students who stand for the elimination of homophobia and/or discrimination based on gender identity. Selection is based on application documents. There are approximately 50 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: $1,000 per award  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
