Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  2. Must reside in and attend a high school in the Austin or Eanes Independent School Districts in Texas.
  3. Must have a parent who is currently battling cancer, or a parent who has been lost to cancer.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: The Kris and Kay Memorial Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors in Austin or Eames Texas. Applicants must have lost a parent to cancer, or have a parent who is currently battling cancer.

Additional Information: The Kris and Kay Memorial Scholarship is provided in memory of Kris Newsom and Kay Guleke: the award seeks to celebrate their lives and remember the tragic end to their battles with cancer. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be graduating high school seniors in Austin or Eanes Independent School Districts (ISD) in Texas who have been personally affected through the cancer diagnosis of a parent. Applicants will be evaluated as to their responses on the emotional and financial struggles of living with a parent who has battled cancer, as well as evidence of consistent academic success throughout these times. The Austin Community Foundation was founded in 1977 and has provided more than $6.5 million in scholarship awards since the foundation's scholarship program began in 1996. Each year, more than 400 new scholarship awards worth greater than $600,000 are provided through a variety of aid programs designed to assist students in the Austin, Texas area and beyond.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
