Number of Awards & Eligibility: Twenty awards.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited Vermont postsecondary school approved for federal Title IV funding.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must plan to enroll in an accredited licensed practical nursing (LPN) degree program, OR be in the final year of an accredited associate's degree program in nursing (AS, RN), OR be in the final two years of an accredited bachelor's of science degree program in nursing (BSN, RN), OR be in the master's entry program in nursing (MEPN). Please note: Graduation from the program must result in eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN examination.
  6. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate or graduate student.
  7. Must enroll or plan to enroll on a half-time (six credits) or higher basis.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Vermont undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in nursing. Recipients must work as a nurse in Vermont or at an accredited hospital within ten miles of the Vermont border for a minimum of one year following licensure for forgiveness of the loan.

Additional Information: This program was established by the Vermont Legislature to ensure an adequate number of nurses for the future healthcare needs of Vermonters. Funding for this program is conditional upon annual legislative appropriation. All applicants are required to demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on financial need and application documents. There are approximately 100 applicants for this award each year. A partial/complete cancellation of the award (interest-free loan) will be given under the following conditions: completion of a nursing degree program; LPN or RN licensure; and completion of one year of employment as an RN or LPN either in Vermont or at an accredited hospital within ten miles of the Vermont border.

Award Amount: Generally up to $50,000 is appropriated annually for awards under this program. Awards are made in the form of an interest-free loan and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $50,000.
