Description: The Black Skeptics of Los Angeles First in the Family Humanist Scholarship is available for secular, humanist, and atheist/non-theist students of African descent who demonstrate leadership and activism in their communities. Applicants must reside in Los Angeles.

Additional Information: The Secular Student Alliance is a nonprofit organization designed to help secular, atheist, and non-theist students express themselves and spread secular values within their communities. Scholarships are awarded each year to members who have demonstrated leadership in their communities, strong values in their personal lives, and dedication to academics within the school setting. Additional consideration is given to students involved in intersectional activism.

Award Amount: Scholarships will be provided in the amounts of $3,000 and $1,000. All awards are provided on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications for and additional information about the Black Skeptics of Los Angeles First in the Family Humanist Scholarship are available online at the Secular Student Alliance website. To be considered for this scholarship, students must first register for a free membership with the Secular Student Alliance (SSA). Students must then complete the online application form, which includes a section for eight personal response questions / essays of up to 500 words in length. All membership registrations, applications, and essays must be submitted through their respective online forms. Submissions must be received no later than the deadline date.
