Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. A minimum of 30 scholarships
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited institution.
  3. Must have and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in course work relevant to the industry or required of a degree program, and either be employed by or demonstrate a strong interest in entering the public transportation industry.
  4. Must major in a public transportation industry-related field of study.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a current college sophomore (30 or more hours satisfactorily completed), junior, senior, or graduate student.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Currently enrolled sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students who are majoring in a public transportation industry-related field of study are eligible to apply. Students must have and maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the American Public Transportation Foundation Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Signature of APTA sponsor
  • Copy of fee schedule from college/unviersity
Additional Information: The APTF Board of Directors will select the recipients in August and nominees will be appropriately notified of awards. The scholarship awards will be presented at the APTA Annual Meeting. Award winners also will receive a complimentary subscription to APTA's weekly newspaper, Passenger Transport, and a complimentary registration for major APTA meetings during their tenure in the program.

Award Amount: Awards ranging from $6,000-$10,000 annually  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $150,000.
