In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Grand Rapids Community College or Grand Valley State University.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be an undergraduate student.
  6. Must demonstrate unmet financial need.
  7. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.

Description: This award is availble for undergraduate residents of Kent County, Michigan who are enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College or Grand Valley State University. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate unmet financial need.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This scholarship, named in honor of Jacob R. & Mary M. VanLoo & Lenore K. VanLoo, is provided each year to a Kent County undergraduate student who is enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College or Grand Valley State University. Selection is based on financial need and academic performance.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the student's unmet need and the availability of funds. Average awards are about $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
