Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must not have been charged with or convicted of any misdemeanors or felonies.
  4. Must be 16 to 23 years of age on the deadline date.
  5. Must plan to pursue a career in aviation as a professional pilot.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. students who plan to pursue a career in aviation as a professional pilot. Students must be between 16 and 23 years of age at time of application.

Application requirements for the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation Flight Training Scholarship are:

Additional Information: This scholarship applies to obtaining a private pilot license only. It does not apply to instrument ratings or any other aspect of flight training. The scholarship is not intended for individuals already enrolled in a university-based flight program, which offers instruction in private pilot certification as part of the curriculum. In addition to all other specified criteria, the student must meet the following requirements: must read, write, and speak English to FAA standards; must be able to attain an FAA third-class medical certificate (the certificate will only be requested once the student has been selected for the scholarship); and must have dependable transportation and sufficient time available to complete training at the nearest Cessna Pilot Training Center. Only the selected winner is notified. He/she will be notified by registered mail and/or telephone.

Award Amount: All fees and expenses associated with the private pilot course will be paid by the foundation.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $9,000.
