In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must reside in Washington or Alaska.
  5. Must major in welding or a closely-related metalworking field.

Additional Information: This scholarship is provided annually by the Northwest Section of the American Welding Society, and it will be awarded each year to a local-area student who demonstrates a passion for pursuing higher education in welding and metalworking.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
