Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on the amount of funding. Last year, 12 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be the first person in his/her immediate family to attend college.
  5. Must be an Asian Pacific American.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior who will be entering his/her first year of college in the fall.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Asian Pacific American students who are high school seniors with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must be the first person in each of their respective families to attend college.

Additional Information: The essay will be judged on the following components: relevance, mechanics, content, style and organization. Depending on the applicant's qualifications for any one of OCA's Scholarships Programs, scholarship winners may be announced between June and August.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) website by clicking the 'Scholarship' link underneath the 'Programs' heading. Each applicant must submit one application. Eligibility for specific awards will be determined upon submission. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit: a resume following the template provided on page six of the application; a one page, single-spaced essay answering the questions listed on the application; an unofficial copy of his/her most recent high school transcript (with the grade point average on a 4.0 scale highlighted); a letter of acceptance or letter of intent to enroll from the college/university; a print out of the total cost of one year of attendance at his/her college or university (can be found in the school's welcome packet or on its website); a letter stating the student's financial situation; and a copy of the student's SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. If a student is selected as a finalist, he/she must submit his/her financial aid award notification (FAN) within one week's notice. Additional questions should be directed to the OCA using the email address provided. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online the deadline date.
