In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be an American Indian.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior to apply for this freshman year award.
  5. Must have an ACT score of 22 OR an SAT score of 1020.
  6. Must rank in the top 50 percent of his/her graduating class.
  7. Must plan to attend Oklahoma City University as a first-time college freshman.
  8. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: American Indian graduating high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher OR an ACT/SAT score of 22/1020 or higher and rank in the top 50 percent of their graduating class are eligible for this award. Students must attend Oklahoma City University.

Additional Information: The American Indian Scholarship Program helps provide a private college education to deserving students who may not otherwise have the opportunity. Recipients of the scholarship are obligated to participate in activities that serve their personal development and forward the mission of OCU.

Award Amount: Up to the full amount of tuition, basic room and board, and books. The amount is determined after all state, federal and/or tribal aid or other scholarships have been applied to the recipient's account. Tuition for full-time enrollment (12-16 hour block) is valued at approximately $27,276 annually. Room and board costs vary annually. The average cost is $4,540. Each recipient will also receive a $400 book allowance annually.The award is renewable for up to six additional semesters (three years), as long as the student maintains a grade point average of 2.5 or higher; annual completion of the FAFSA and Data Form; active participation in one or more approved campus organizations, committe, council or task force; and completion of 150 or more community service hours annually (from Aug. 1 through May 1).Summer school is not included unless the student has a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and meets all program requirements.*Each recipient is required to attend a summer II bridge program (for credit) and the annual scholarship retreat in August.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $32,216.

Applications for admission are available online from the Oklahoma City University (OCU) website. In addition to the completed application for admission, the student must submit two letters of recommendation; an activity and volunteer resume; a one-page essay addressing one of the three questions listed; the FAFSA; OCU Student Data Form (available online); and a copy of his/her Certificate Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB). The FAFSA is available online from fafsa.ed.gov. The applicant must submit other financial aid documents as requested by the university’s financial aid office. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted by February 1.
