Number of Awards & Eligibility: Twenty awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
  4. Must plan to major in foreign affairs.
  5. Must be a minority student.
  6. Must be accepted to or enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application.

Description: The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship is available to minority students who are pursuing a graduate degree in foreign affairs. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in the Foreign Service in which they can help formulate, represent and implement U.S. foreign policy. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. Fellows who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements will receive appointments as Foreign Service Officers, one of the most exciting and rewarding careers available.

Award Amount: This award provides funding for two years of graduate school expenses, as well as assistance with placement as a Foreign Services Officer.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $60,000.

Applications and information about this fellowship are available on the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program website at the address provided. In addition to the completed online application, the student must upload the following documents: Background information about the applicant's personal experiences and educational background; A personal statement of 600 words or less describing the student's interest in foreign affairs, as well as a statement of 400 words or less describing his/her financial need; Two letters of recommendation; Proof of U.S. citizenship; a Student Aid Report (SAR) generated by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); GRE or GMAT Scores; Official transcripts from all educationl institutions attended; and an official copy of the student's most recent university financial aid report. All documents, with the exception of the letters of recommendation, must be saved in .doc or .pdf format and uploaded during the online application process. To submit recommendations and nominations, the applicant must supply contact information for one faculty member and one community leader who have agreed to provide recommendations. All applications, supporting documents, and nomination contacts must be submitted online before the deadline date.
