Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 139 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. A student in his/her second (sophomore) year of study must be enrolled in a dietetic technician program. A student in his/her junior or senior year of a baccalaureate (coordinated or didactic) program (or a student enrolled in a graduate program) must be studying dietetics. The student must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited or approved dietetics program. A list of the CADE-accredited programs can be found on the ADA website.
  4. Must be a member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
  5. Must be a current undergraduate or graduate college student.

Description: College sophomores, juniors, seniors and/or graduate stduents who are currently enrolled in a dietetics program and are members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) are eligible to apply. Applications are available online to members only.

Additional Information: The student must demonstrate or show promise of being a valuable, contributing member of the profession. Some scholarships require specific dietetic practice group membership and/or residency in a specific state. The American Dietetic Association, through its many association groups, offers a variety of scholarships and educational stipends to individuals pursuing undergraduate and advanced degrees in dietetics or food and nutrition related areas. While all students are eligible for most ADAF scholarships, some are specified for dietetics students who are members of underrepresented groups. General scholarship and educational stipend information from the American Dietetic Association Foundation, the dietetic practice groups and affiliate (state) and district dietetic associations can be accessed from the respective group's information listed on the website provided. Recipients are selected in May and are notified by mid-June.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary annually. Last year, awards ranged from $500 to $3,000 annually. The majority of scholarships awarded are for $1,000. Awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
