Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In 2015, 41 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be an incoming college freshman in the upcoming fall semester (defined as a student who has never been enrolled in a college or university).
  4. Must major in hospitality management at a U.S. college or university.
  5. Must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours for the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
  6. Must have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available to U.S. students who will be incoming college freshmen in the following academic year. Students must plan to major in hospitality management and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Additional Information: In 2008, AH&LEF created a scholarship exclusively for incoming freshman to encourage enrollment in hospitality-related undergraduate programs and attract more students to the lodging industry. The program is being funded from scholarship monies set aside from AH&LEF's last major capital giving fundraising initiative, the New Century Campaign. Students are evaluated based on academics, related work experience, extracurricular activities, financial need, honors, and personal attributes. Please note: Preference will be given to high school graduates of the Hospitality & Tourism Management Program (HTMP) or Lodging Management Program (LMP).

Award Amount: Baccalaureate students will receive $2,000, and associate's students will receive $1,000. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
