Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants. There are approximately 11 awards given each semester.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Johnson County in Arkansas.
  4. Must have graduated from high school, or received a GED equivalent, by the time of intended college enrollment. Students must plan to study at the undergraduate level, and cannot have previously received an undergraduate degree.
  5. Must be classified as low income by federal guidelines (150 percent of poverty level).
  6. Must be a single parent with custody of one or more children under the age of 18.

Description: Undergraduate single students who are residing in Johnson County, Arkansas are eligible for this award. Students must be classified as low-income according to federal guidelines (150 percent of poverty level) and have one or more children under the age of 18.

Additional Information: The student must be the recipient of a Pell Grant or be in the process of obtaining one. The Pell Grant is obtained by filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student must need training in order to seek gainful employment. He/she cannot already have earned an undergraduate degree.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per semester for the first year and up to $750 per semester for the second and following years, pending availability of funds. Scholarships are not automatically renewable; the student must apply for funding each year. The applicant may apply for the scholarship for a maximum of five years. If a recipient withdraws from all classes, he/she must wait one year before reapplying.Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, fees, utility bills, car maintenance, childcare, etc.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $625.
