Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, eight awards were provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.
  4. Must be majoring in a field related to the energy industry, such as engineering, geology, or land management.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  6. Must reside in or attend a college or university in Texas.

Description: The Texas Energy Council scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in an energy-related field. Appliants must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher, and must be a resident of Texas or attending a college/university in Texas.

Additional Information: Applications will be evaluated based on a combination of academic record, demonstrated commitment and experience with the energy industry, and financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously won the award, but previous winners are welcome to apply.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications and instructions are available online at the Texas Energy Council website and may be accessed with the provided link. To be considered for this award, students must submit a completed application form as well as the following: an official copy of transcripts for all academic work completed; an essay of no more than one type-written page in length that describes why the applicant is interested in the energy field and what career he or she hopes to pursue; an applicant vitae; and two sealed letters of recommendation dated on or after Sep. 1, 2017. The applicant vita should describe the applicant's work and school history such as any honors and awards received, contacts or work experience in the energy industry, community service and participation. It may also include a statement of financial need. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by certified mail and must be postmarked no later than the deadline date.
