Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree.

Description: The Toby Merril Scholarship is available for U.S. students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university. Applicants must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher, and additional consideration will be given to students who are active in sports, leadership, and other community activities.

Additional Information: The Toby Merrill Scholarship is awarded each year to applicants who best demonstrate the values Toby lived by. Preference is given to students with strong academic records, a history of participation in sports and/or other community activities, as well as students who demonstrate high levels of unmet financial need or family problems arising from cancer, death, or other forms of loss. Finalists will be selected for a personal interview with the members of the Tony Merrill Scholarship Fund board and may be asked to elaborate and provide additional details on information submitted through the application.

Award Amount: $9,700 annually, renewable for up to four years of study so long as the student remains in good academic and disciplinary standing at his or her college or university.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $38,800.

Applications and additional information about this award can be found online at the Toby Merril Scholarship Fund website. To be considered for an award, students must submit a completed application that includes the following: student contact information; two essays in response to the topics posted on the application; official transcripts and profiles from the student's high school; and a letter of recommendation from a counselor, teacher, mentor, coach, or employer. Students are also encouraged to include any relevant information about awards and honors received, positions of leadership, and other aspects of community involvement. All applications must be submitted online and must be received by the deadline date. Late and incomplete submissions will not be considered.
