Great with a second thought

While I don't hate it, I don't love it. I probably wouldn't recommend that anyone I know come here. Other people's hair is waxed into the dorm floors, there is frequently moldy food found in the caf, and the meal plan is $6000 a year, and you cannot opt out of it if you live in the dorms. It is a residential campus so you have to apply to live off campus, and unless you have a really good reason it will be denied.

Coe College is tiny which means your professors will know you and they'll spot your absence which is why out of all my friends, all of whom went to big state universities, I was the only one who graduated on time with great college experiences. Coe College was great due to the amazing staff and professors I had the pleasure of knowing. But is the campus in a great and fun area? No.

Overall a good school, with lots of opportunities to create a career after graduation. The professors are always available and love helping students whenever they are needed. The professors and other faculty always strive to give the best of the best to every student.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

    If I could go back, I would convince myself to look elsewhere other than Coe. Now that I am transferring to the Unversity of Kansas, I realize that Coe was not the place for me. In going back, I would explain how to look deeper into the school than just the surface. Sure, I learned a lot and matured quite a bit. But I realize that being one of the only non-drinking students at a school of that size really affects the amount of fun that I can have. If I could go back, I would encourage myself to take a deeper interest into the science and math classes, and gear my college search towards schools that offer more of those kind of majors. I will not say that Coe wasn't a helpful step for me to grow and learn from, but I believe that by telling my senior self to look elsewhere in a college, I would be more successful.

  3. What kind of person should attend this school?

    Students who do not need sleep should attend Coe College. Students at Coe take their education seriously and devote hours every day to pouring through texts, notes, and lecture slides. Yet the air at Coe tastes of more than library dust; there is a sweet expectation of life just around the corner. Students constantly move from one activity to the next, rarely resting and always prepared. The extracurricular life, vibrant in its diversity, calls every student to participate, to live. At Coe, grades remain a primary concern, but students know that knowledge does not come from books alone.

    A very friendly and well-knit group of students who want to get a great education and have some fun along the way.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

    I love the people here. This includes the professors, students, and all the faculty. Everyone here is very helpful for anything a student needs. Everyone is helpful to help anyone decide what they want to major in, or even getting a job lined up. Since I have been at Coe, I have worked very hard for the classes I have taken. The classes here are very hard, but there are tutors or other students available to help. Also I was surprised at how everyone wanted to help out the community with volunteering.

    the food. it is really expensive for what you get and theirs not a lot of choices and how much it costs

    I wish I had know just how much fun I would have and how much I would learn. I would not have been so nervous.

    My classmates come from a variety of different backgrounds and states, ranging from California to Japan. The variety makes it a great way to get to know people from different lifestyles and traditions. It also makes the learning experience more exciting because different opinions in the classroom help to improve the learning quality.

    My school is unique because the atmosphere is so welcoming and caring - like a family. At my school, we really strive to make changes in our own lives and in the world. I think it is also special because of the thirst both students and teachers have for knowledge. It is also a very laid back and comfortable campus.

  12. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

    The most frustrating thing about Coe is how small it is. While the class sizes that come from such a small school are exactly what I need to learn best, I feel like there is less of a variety of people that I get to interact with. I've also noticed that being a small private school, Coe doesn't have the funding for all of the perks that a larger school may.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
