What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
When deciding which school to attend it is helpful to research as you can about each school- you've already taken the first step by looking at this website. Do an overnight stay at schools you're interested in to get a feel for the atmosphere and ask everyone plenty of questions! The best way to find out about the school is from those who have personal experience attending it. You should have a general idea of what your preferences are in size, location, etc., but at the same time make sure those preferences don't dictate your choice. Your ideal college may turn out to be completely different from what you planned. Overall just go with your gut instinct about what is the best match for you, while staying within your financial limits. Look into scholarship applications and each school's financial aid guidelines to help you pay for the school. Once you get in; work hard, manage your time, keep an open mind, and an optimistic outlook on life. Everyone is nervous starting at a new school but if you are focused and genuine you will attract the right crowd and pave the way towards a bright future.

What's unique about your campus?
Community. Students at Saint Mike's are very friendly and accepting of each other. Dorm room dorms are hardly ever shut and there is always a nice mix of all grade levels at campus events. Most students know each other by name, or through mutual friends which makes socializing very easy. A large number of students are involved in clubs and sports and there is always something to do when you need that break from studying. Saint Mike's has so much to offer if you are willing to just participate. Have really enjoyed my three years here!

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Honestly.... I wish I never had to leave. I had such an amazing time there and made the best friends of my life. I learned so much and walked way with such pride for my school. I still visit often (my sister is now a sophmore there!) and read the SMC newspaper every week.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
Location. It can't be beat. We are just a five minute, free shuttle ride to Burlington, Vermont. If you can't find something to do here, you are hopeless. There is a fantastic music and art scene, great shopping and restaurants and Lake Champlain with biking trails and kayaking, etc. The pedestrian area of Church Street is alive in all seasons with so much to do that I could not list them all. And of course, skiiing!! Saint Mike's offers it's students a ski pass for the whole year to Smuggler's Notch for only $30.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There is so much to do no matter what how you define fun. You can have a great time whether or not you decide to drink. Clubs on campus often hold sober get togethers- they once rented out the entire bowling alley which was a blast! Burlington is also a great college town- Church Street is a great place to hang out and enjoy a beauitiful day! Or stroll down to the lakefront and relax!

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I loved the size of SMC. About 2000 students meant that my largest class was about 30 students. All my professors knew me by name, there were no TA's and there is access to a lot of great minds on campus. Plenty of classes and majors to pick from. I was very involved in our MOVE program, which is a community service program. I was able to go on two extended service trips (one to New York City and one to Selma, Alabama) where we did community service and learned about the history of the area. A great program to be involved in!!!

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Not at all. Yes, there are many students who care about going "green" and things like that, but it is not at all a hippie school. There are students from all walks of life at SMC, which makes it a fantastic place to learn and grow!
