I have enjoyed my time at Assumption. This university has a close community feel. Ever since I toured the university, I knew that was where I belonged. Everyone is always willing to help you out. During the first day of classes, if you got lost, tables were set around campus to help, and anyone you asked was also willing to help you find classes. Orientation is also very planned, and their extreme effort to create a fun experience for first-time students is seen and felt by many. Go hounds!

Assumption, although I transferred out is a great school for a specific kind of student. That student has to fit white, rich, or from the New England area that isn't too ambitious to really feel comfortable in this school. A lot of the kids mostly mean well but if you are a person of color and aren't rich I could imagine it would be difficult for you. A lot of the students here are privileged and sheltered so they don't aspire for much or know about much of the world and have a love-hate relationship with the school. The professors in subjects other than science are fantastic, if you are a STEM student just watch out for what professors you have cuz that'll make or break your experience and grade. Food is below average so is housing, but living in a shit dorm is a bonding experience honestly. No one lives off-campus, barely any commuters. School is highly conservative and the administration is not supportive of the LGBTQ community at all, in 2021 they have had many appearances in the news for being openly supportive of Trump and openly opposing the LGBTQ communities' rights. Not a lot of majors to choose from, no cool + specific programs like you'll find at research or public university, parties here are like the ones you go to in high school (small + can be exclusive), Worcester isn't a super safe or exciting city, but the school is near Union Station so you can go into Boston super easily which is wicked nice. If you get into UMass Amherst like I did or a top 100 school, I would seriously recommend going there instead- you might regret coming here if you had those options to choose from and you go to assumption instead.
As crumby as what I have described above is, if you really put yourself out there, join clubs, are on your professor's good side, and take advantage of the career and tutoring services this is a great school to start in then leave for something better. I took advantage of every leadership, club, volunteer, tutoring service and got a stellar GPA while attending here and it set me up for success to be able to transfer into a top 100 school. Best of luck to whoever attends, this school will not give you the traditional college experience, but take it for what it is: a small catholic liberal arts college with strict rules, not a lot of diversity in majors or people, no huge parties, and a high school community feel that isn't as welcoming as they market it. Also, be careful while attending because it is very much a thing for students to hate and complain about the school. If you're looking for school pride, you won't find much of it here.

Feel they have done a great job with the current corona virus pandemic. Made my first semester as a freshman memorable. Enjoyed running with some cross country team and lecturing with peer ministry. Proud to be a HOUND!

I love Assumption College, but there is definitely room for improvement. Living spaces could all be upgraded with AC’s, and kitchens could be more accessible to students. More transportation for off campus activities like shopping. More jobs for students would also be nice, along with better quality food in Taylor Dining Hall.
Alexis
I loved it. It has a great environment and amazing students that makes the students feel apart of a community.
Leah
I love the school. It is a small school and easy to know so many of the students I have classes with. Professors are always available and all classes are taught by a professor and not a teacher's assistant. I feel safe on campus and Worcester is an awesome city to live in. Close to my home and yet still 1.5 hours away.

Cannot stress how awful this school is. You either go here if you are a goody two shoes catholic person that doesnt care about the boring school, or you come here if you had an alcohol and drug addiction in highschool, and your parents want you in a detention facility. This school is unbelievably strict when it comes to bag checks, alcohol, or any drugs. Campus police will shut down any party before 11, RAs and campus police will search you for alcohol, and if you appear to be under the influence you will get "points" by your RA. If a campus police officer sees someone stumbling, they will document it on your conduct record and search your room for alcohol. Not a fun school, way too strict. The classes are a complete joke. They are so easy and you do not get a proper education here. Period. Campus is very run down, food is atrocious. I lost 6 pounds in my first week here due to food. Awful school. Reconsider becuase this is nothing like they make it out to be on tours

Assumption is a disgraceful institution riddled in corruption. Let me first say that the Assumption police act like the FBI, preventing college kids from taking part in college fun, making the school more like a correctional facility than a college campus. Food is sub-par, in fact, I have gotton sick a few times from the dining hall - p.s. last time I checked, romaine lettuce was still being served. Academics are remedial with professors who Show minimal interest in their work. Dorming situation is awful, found mold in the room and have had several encounters with mice. I highly advise anyone considering Assumption College to look somewhere else. This is not what college is supposed to be like. So many students transfer after the first year once they realize what they have gotten themselves into

Assumption is everything I was looking for in a college. There are so many ways to become involved in the community, and students and professionals alike contribute to make the campus a truly welcoming place that feels like a home-away-from-home (even for a student from half-across the country). Professors are accessible and seem genuinely invested in the education of students.

I love Assumption - I love the community feel, I love the people I met, I love the opportunities. I had some of the most fun times of my life there and did some serious learning. I felt so excited to find a major I was passionate about and stick to it. The English professors are dedicated, kind, and smart, and I always looked forward to going to class. The social aspect of campus was extremely fun too. Most people lived on, so all of your friends were always within walking distance. I know this is a privilege that other schools do not have if a lot of students live off campus. I felt like Assumption was an awesome community and I am thankful for my time on campus - I always felt safe and felt eager to be involved. Hounds for life.

Assumption College as a visitor was an amazing college. It's a small campus, but very lively. The sports games are intense with people always attending the games and cheering. The professors are very nice having met them and they are always there to help. They are kind, helpful, and want everyone to succeed. There are great internships established by the college. The students are very nice and what is nice you know a lot of people. It is a very friendly environment. I am very glad to have chose this school and to be going in the Fall of 2018.

Assumption College has succeeded at creating an inclusive culture that welcomes students of all ages. In addition, the academic culture is student focused and isn't tainted by ulterior motives of the academic departments at Assumption. The support from the entire staff is endearing and motivational because they are all willing to go the extra mile for the student or just listen when needed. I was skeptical at first but, throughout my time Assumption I've been able to cultivate relationships with my professors outside of class. Having them as resources outside of class has given me access to their insight that have helped me advance my career. The MBA program is no different, I'm currently enrolled and finding faculty for advice is effortless. The network of support has never failed me and so long as a student is willing to ask, this network won't let them down either.

Assumption College is a small school, yes, but also a tight knit community. There is so much to do on campus during the week, and always activities to do if one is not into the party scene. The classes consist of 25 students or less almost one-hundred percent of the time, and the professors are extremely flexible in meeting with student if one cannot make office hours. Assumption College feels like home where you are challenged academically, and provides a fun atmosphere with sporting events and various other activities on the weekends.

Assumption College has a very cheerful environment, with opportunities all around campus and there is always a helpful student around every corner. I had the amazing opportunity to visit and tour this campus on Accept Assumption Day, and I could easily see myself attending. The students welcomed incoming freshmen with open arms. Whenever there was a chance for them to explain about their life at Assumption, their faces lit up and we could feel at ease with the vibrant atmosphere around us. Personally, Assumption College has the best campus size to fit my needs, and the education/club activities are astounding. I am so eager to attend this college as it gave me a wonderful first impression.

I do not mind attending the college, but if I had to do it over again, I would choose a different school. The recent changes over the years has resulted in administration not listening to the voice of the student body, and students have noticed this major shift from their freshman year to senior.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Assumption College is 77%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
As a student at Assumption College, I have learned and suffered the hardships of college life. There are many instances where I wished to change my decisions, yet there is only one advice left to give. If I could have a discussion with my High school self, I would emphacize the importance of taking more advantage of the opportunities and resources provided by the shool. Much like many students, I valued my social life sometimes more than I should have. If I could give one piece of advice it would be to buckle up and give it my best, instead of focusing on becoming a social butterfly. School should always come first as one's innermost key to a successful future. I believe it is not who you know that matters, but the knowledge gained in one's journey. In this world, no one can take away someone's knowledge, however; materialistic objects can be lost. My past self should focus on being the best she could be and not worrying about the pressures of college life. Success is often achieved by those who opt to take the road less traveled towards a bright future, not the easy way out.
The best thing about my school is it's size. It's a very small school, and thus, you get to know the majority of people who go to school there. There is also a much more personal relationship with professors you couldn't experience in a larger school. You know most of them on a personal level, and they know who you are. Being in such close proximity to everyone is good for making new friends and learning about everything.
Since this college is a Catholic based liberal arts school, most of the students here are of the Catholic faith. I believe that a person who has had a high school which is college oriented would do very well here. It certainly helps to be friendly and outgoing because most of the students, as well as the professors are that way. I think that if you are looking for a very good liberal arts education, Assumption College should be your choice. There are numerous opportunities here to succeed in whatever field in which you plan to have a career.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
A student looking for a large university experience should not attend this school. Assumption College is very much about it small size and close student body.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
What is unique about assumption college are the lots of sciencie majors we can choose from and all the science program they offer. Their labs and classes are very helpful and proffesional. Also the financial aid to go there was good and it is close to my house. Another thing Assumption College has is their different activities to get involved and different opportunities to play sports.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known that this school had so many wealthy students who judged you based on what you wore. This school reminds me of high school sometimes
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
It is small enough to know almost everyone, to get to know the professors one on one and to get a tutor to help you out. The location is great it is surrounded by beatiful houses and the best part of Worcester. Assumption is impecable and always has beautiful gardens so eventhough it is a school there is still wildlife. Wild turkeys often visit the driveways and there are secluded wooded areas. The gate keepers are also an added sense of security. The school is great academically as well as socially. No fraternity or hazing. Great school!
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
There does not seem to be a large amount of diversity- a lot of the school is focused on athletics and there is not a strong theater department with diversity. There is no major in theater.
Assumption College is absolutely amazing! I love every little part about it whether it is the professors or the school spirit we have. We have the nicest students and the smartest professors here on campus. The faculty are always around to help, whether it be in their office or even if they are just walking around campus. They know your name usually by the second day of class because they want to. They want to get that face to name recognition so they are able to know you as a person. Even though Assumption is a small school, containing 2,500 undergrads, it feels bigger than that. Our campus is about one mile all around and it is set on 185 acres of land. For me it was the perfect size. Our regular class sizes are 25 students and we never have more than 40 students per class. I knew I wanted a smaller school without crazy lecture halls with 300 students in them and Assumption only has three lecture halls which has about 30 students in them per class! When I tell people that I go to Assumption College their first reaction is usually "I've heard great things about Assumption? Do you love it?" and my answer is always yes! It is an awesome place which I never want to leave.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Honestly, there are so many clubs and activities at Assumption, and such a wide variety of them, that I do not think there is necessarily a most popular one. There are clubs for academics, the visual and performing arts, honors societies, media publications, politics and government, volunteering, athletics, and spirituality. As for myself, I am involved in numerous groups and activities on campus. I am on the Assumption College Dance Team, the student theatre club Merely Players, Assumption Disability Awareness Promotion Team (A.D.A.P.T.), and in the Honors Program. In the past, I have also been a part of the Latin Dance Club, Peers Advocating Wellness for Students (PAWS), and I was in last year’s spring musical Children of Eden. Besides all the different clubs that are offered at Assumption, there are numerous events and traditions that occur on campus. There are sporting events such as football and basketball games, Family Weekend, Siblings Weekend, the annual Spring Concert, the Winter and Spring Balls for juniors and seniors, and many Bingo nights throughout the year. There are also trips off campus, comedians and musicians that come to Assumption to display their talents, and showings of popular movies. If one weekend you do want to get off campus, there is a shuttle system called the WOO Bus that takes Assumption students, as well as students of other colleges in Worcester, to various places in and around the city. These places include Shrewsbury Street, which plays host to some of Worcester’s best restaurants and night life, The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, and Solomon Pond Mall. As you can see, it is extremely difficult to be bored when you attend Assumption College.
The academics at Assumption are very strong. I am only a second semester sophomore, and I feel as if I have already learned so much from the different courses I have taken. As I mentioned before, Assumption is a school that is made up of small classes. Hence, each of the professors knows us students by name and on a personal level. I believe that this is a major advantage because it gives off the impression that the professors really take an interest in teaching the students. It also shows that the professors are willing to make sure that the students comprehend what is being taught. As a result of the professors and students being so close, class participation is very common in each and every one of the courses. In fact, in the classes I’ve taken at Assumption, a significant percentage of the final grade is dedicated solely to class participation. However, the amount that is required is extremely rewarding and worthwhile, as they cause interesting discussions to occur between the professor and the students. Sometimes, these discussions even continue outside the classroom amongst the students. Most importantly, though, is that education at Assumption is geared toward getting a job once you graduate. In these tough economic times, the professors and administration recognize that they need to produce members of society that are knowledgeable in their field as well as employable. A lot of Assumption’s students receive jobs upon finishing their studies. Because of this, it is easy to see that the academics at Assumption are extremely strong.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
98% of students attending Assumption College receive some sort of financial aid.
