What are the academics like at Auburn University?

Courtney

Tough but great.

Kate

REALLY high standards with academics. Even in the easiest classes, you will get a run for your money.Class participation is big, but you can also do well if you don't go to class, ONLY if you are very independent and good at teaching yourself. Classes are pretty small minus your big into lecture courses like chemistry and biology. Students are pretty competitive, but friendly. I am a pre med major and it is very difficult here, but it is do able. Professors have office hours, which you can choose to attend or not, but they are all very nice and work with you so you can do well!

Many professors try to learn students names, most work hard at making classes interesting, and assistance outside of class is plentiful. Writing centers, tutors, extensive libraries in 3 locations on campus.& open 24 hrs 6 days a week. In class participation is very common & encouraged & required in some classes. The AUPE classes are in wide variety to include, walking, jogging, bowling, and even belly dancing occasionally. The academic requirements are typical and set a bit higher than some schools, & one of the reasons it is a very prestigious & sought after university.

At Auburn the classes can go as well as you want them to. If you are active in the class and try to make an effort you will succeed. Some of the classes can be rather large but the professor can still get to know you if you try and mingle with them. I feel that in my classes, biomedical sciences, that i am getting a very solid education and that i am learning very well. In my classes i have found a group of other students to be competitive with and make the class more engaging. The classes can be as competitive or noncompetitive as you make them. Here it is all about what you put in.

you might have already seen some websites for the rankings in each program. Its like one of the best in offering all professional and varied programs.

This depends alot on your major, i have taken some art classes and those professors will take the time to get to know their students. In any class though, if you take the time to go to a professor's office hours or talk to them before or after class they will remember you.

The professors knew my name because I was the only non-white in my grad class. It is the typical football u academics, not that hard and pretty easy if you do the work. I found the business and building construction professors still have a problem with minorities in their classes especially in grad classes. I found about half of them very unprofessional.

Professors don't seem to know my name, but I'm not one to speak up much, so I may not be the best judge. It does seem as though they're a little more unapproachable than I'd anticipated. If you can get in the honors college, do- the classes are more intellectually stimulating, and the benefits (registration, housing, etc.) are almost unfair. I've never sensed anything remotely like "competition" in the classroom. Grades aren't all that important to a lot of people, and good grades aren't too difficult to attain here.

Professors are great in my department, Comm and JRNL

Meredith

My senior level professors know my name because the classes are small. I do not like how hard it is to get into PR classes

Mackenzie

I had one class where my professor knew my name in a class of about 240. The rest of my classes I am pretty sure they have no clue. My favorite class was Introduction to Biolgy, even though I didn't even need it. I usually study two days before my test.

Emily

Auburn is very competitive and I am in nursing school which is very hard and time consuming

Tiffany

Classes are simple if you do your work. Make it a point to know your professor and they will know you. An excellent thing about Auburn is that everyone is here to go to school; if someone says they have to study one night, it is respected and the person doesn't feel like a total loser if they don't og out one night. Everyone is here for school and to do well.

Allison

I don't think any professors know my name but I enjoy all of my classes. They are all really interesting.

Melissa

The classes in Auburn, well they are class. You will have those great Professors who care so much, and then those who would rather be somewhere else than in that classroom teaching that lesson again. Favorite class? I would have to say Statistics or Lifespan and Human Development. Worst class? Chemistry with Dr. Death. Its comeptitive even though it might not seem that way but I like that about Auburn. Most unique class I have taken here would have to be the Au Expirence class.

Education at Auburn is very good and I feel that it prepares you for a job while also making sure you learn something. Students are definitely competitive (some more than others).

Suzanne

I believe that Auburn has a great academic system. having big classes as an underclassman waas sort of hard but as i have gotten into my major classes they are smaller and mroe cmfortable. for the most part i enjoy my major, even though sometimes it can be a little boring and repetitive.

I think that the one thing to complain about regarding Auburn academics is the huge lecture classes that most students have to take. I know that comes from going to a big university, but a lot of the time it feels like even when you go to a teacher's office hours for extra help, etc. they still do not know who you are, and they really do not care how you do in their class.
