Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

Describe the students at Colorado State University-Fort Collins.

Allison

Most students I've met are very open and accepting to all people. Most students dress casually to class, although there are some girls who trot around in stilettos and a mini skirt all day. The evangelical Christian group is pretty active on campus and usually provide afternoon entertainment in the LSC Plaza with some evangelist telling everyone they are going to go to hell if they don't get saved. During these events, about 1/5 of the students listening are members of the evangelical group and the rest are curious bystanders or active opponents. There is a good number of international students of different races, there are more females than males...There are the crazy partiers and the academic students...pretty much everyone can find a place to fit in.

i have not been able to find very many students here as CSU that I have much in common with. It has been quite a culture shock being raised in private school all my life. Also, the food at the dining halls is terrible, and the hours available for cafeteria service are not good.

Iris

CSU is a very diverse school that is well-cultured. In the majority of my classes there are students from around the world, and some dorms are even goaled at being international. In my classes all of the different cultures combine, and we learn for each other. For example in my SOC253 class there is a student from the Middle East, and he is able to bring in another perspective of the Criminal Justice system that we would of otherwise not known.

Torry

Very diverse, although most people would say we're in "vanilla country."

Torry

I think it sucks that the student body is not more diverse (racially etc.) I wish we had more of each group represented on campus to make everyone feel more belonging.

Emily

Sorority girls stick out the most at CSU when it comes to clothes and accessories. They like to put on a "fake image" and present themselves as rich and stuck up. They wear lettered shirts with their sorority name on it and carry designer handbags and purses. Athletes tend to wear their sweatsuit outfits to class or more casual clothes. Most other students dress normal with jeans and a t-shirt. Also, a lot of students wear CSU logo clothes.

Andy

This campus isn't very diverse.

molly

I think there is good diversity among CSU's Studen Body but I would like to see more. I think most students don't try to impress many people when going to school. I would say jeans and sweats are most popular.

Jacob

Most of the student body I have interacted with have the same background. I think that veterans of the armed forces and minorities would feel out of place.

Paige

Since I have been at CSU I can see that there is no discrimination on campus. Everyone is super nice to everyone else and it creates such a good learning environment. Most students when they attend class are in everyday, casual clothes. From my experience, most of the students are from Colorado. It is kind of a bummer to not know anyone when you first come out here but it forces you to make new friends!

Rachel

This is a conservative town that has the most narrow-minded college I've ever been to. The reason for attending is because this is the only universtiy in colorado with my major. It's not a bad place and people are friendly there just overall dumb in not knowing what issues there are or how to research them. Liberal students feel out of place. Different types of students don't really interact at least that I've noticed. Most CSU students are from all over colorado. Finacial-overall middle class. No students are not politically aware and the saddest thing is most only watch what FOX new says instead of actually researching what is actually happening. Also instead of looking at what the canidates have actually done they only pay attention to what they say which is usually an exagerated lie. No students don't talk America is currently the stupidist industrialized country and it shows.

Tyler

I think everyone at CSU is accepting and i don't think that there is any negative racial issues. Sometimes there are some crazy preachers that come to campus and denounce other peoples views. I think there is smaller number or minoritys on campus, but i also think that everyone interacts with everyone else. There is racial acceptance on both sides.

I tried a bible study 1st semster freshman year and it was horrible, they were way too forceful with their beliefs and basically told me that i had to believe this otherwise i was going to hell. After that i tried a few other bible studies and clubs and they all turned out the same way, so im done with trying to find a good bible study group. If you werent very proactive and didnt want to try to make friends or get involved, you might not like it at CSU. If a student did this they may feel out of place because you have to try to make friends and put in the effort to try new things otherwise you may find that CSU is way too big and dull. most students wear jeans, sweatshirts, sweatpants, just casual wear, i hardly see anyone dressed up, and if they are its usually because they have to. most csu students are from colorado but ive met countless people from out of state.

Everyone and everybody is represented on campus for better or for worse. Nothing is pushed on you but if you want to find it its there. Most of the students are from Colorado or the greater Rocky Mountain area. I would say we are a conservative campus that is shifting to being more moderate.

Erika

the student body is great. i love that they are all so open minded

Erika

The student body is awesome. Super friendly and open minded.

Kelly

There is a student from every background and region at CSU. A WIDE variety of students go to CSU.

Allison

The student body is mainly white but there are pockets of diversity among the students. There is hardly any racism though, all diversity clubs are very strong on campus and let their important presence be known. Anyone is welcome at CSU, the students are typically open minded. As far as politics I would have to say we are pretty evenly distributed from left to right. There is a lot of diversity when it comes to opinions and backgrounds and most people aren't afraid to let that be known.

Monica

CSU does not have a very diverse campus. Although I feel that the students are fairly accepting and that racial, religious, and LGBT programs are accepted by the majority, minorities are not well represented (in numbers) at this university. Most minorities would probably feel slightly more separated at CSU, but I do not believe that this would be to an unbearable degree, by any means. Students from the east coast, at least the steotypical high-paced up-tight kind, may feel a little out of place as well. Colorado is much more relaxed and casual than this area. Most students wear jeans and t-shirts to class. Early classes in big lecture halls tend to have more people wearing pj's and in the business college you will see much more professional dress all week long. In the dining halls most people will sit with people from their halls or brother/sister halls. This is because these are the people you meet first and going to meals together is a good ice breaker. Usually these patterns stick for people and you end up making a great group of friends out of it. Most CSU students are from Colorado. I think that the middle class background is probably most prevalent. Our campus, as a whole, is not very politically active- because of this I can not make assumptions on how politically aware students are. I am not sure about other majors, but within the Business College there is a fair amount of discussion based around what jobs pay the best, who is making the most at their internship this summer, and about their target incomes.
