I think Elon is trying to make a conscious effort to diversify the student body and incorporate different kids rather than your average rich kid from maryland. Unfortunatley, those are really the only kind of people who apply. But I will say I have only been there a year and there are a few kids that are really incredible and stand out for their uniquness.

i love the social life-always fun parties and activities around campus. it is the absolute perfect size, its small but no so small that everyone knows your business. my friends from home although they all want to come visit Elon (from all the crazy stories) dont always agree that its the best environment; i think it is what you make it. I spend my weekends out and wild yet in the library during the week and know to get all my work done (unlike some people though). It is a very preppy girl but then there are always those NYC chic girls that come in and make it a little less preppy. Most of the kids i know all attended prep schools (usually boarding) in the north east and for some odd reason are all connected in a social circuit.

I love everything about Elon, and I am not just saying that. The campus is absolutely breathtaking. Every time it is sunny it is hard not to smile when you look at campus. Another great thing is the class sizes and professors. The class sizes are always under 35, and I have yet to have a professor that has not learned my name. Some may say it is kind of like high school in the understanding that classes usually have an attendance policy, and you may have an assign seat, however the professors do not babysit or watch you like high school. I think it is wonderful the professors are so personable because then the information presented is easier to understand. I think the campus size is also perfect. There are enough people that you meet new people in each class and when socializing, however it is small enough that there will be a familiar face walking across campus or in a new classroom. When I tell people I go to Elon, I get mixed reactions. The people that do know it, always compliment it and tell me how lucky and privileged I am to attend it. Then there are some who have never been to the south, or are not very knowledgeable about schools who ask questions. School pride, may be the only thing I would complain about. The football and basketball team, the two biggest sports to cheer on, have recently improved so much that they have both been nationally recognized, however most of the time there are more open stands than people attending. Hopefully since the study body is now aware of the success the teams are having they will improve their attendance at these sporting events.

Elon is a good size for me. It is small enough were I can see familiar faces and know a fair amount of the student population. However, it is large enough where I find myself meeting new people even as a senior. I have only had one class that has exceeded 30 people and that was my Freshman Intro to Economics class. The actual college town of Elon is rather small consisting of a few restaurants, a Dominoes, a subway, 2 bars, a hair salon, gas station and a couple other stores. You can drive about 5 minutes to Burlington where there is a new outdoor mall and shopping center. Several things to do around town and a lot of chain restaurants. Shool pride is higher among club sports. Elon Rugby D.3 state Rugby champs brought 400 people to an exhibition match. Which is a higher attendance than a lot of our varsity sports and even some football games.

The best thing about Elon is the campus itself...it's gorgeous. The people are friendly and polite and the professors are accomadating. The one major downfall of Elon is the rigidness of the administration and campus police. I was written up three times this past year for drinking in my apartment, not making any noise, with a few friends. The punishments are harsh and they give absolutely no breaks.

Overall as a school I love Elon. The students there are incredibly friendly and the campus is outrageously beautiful. It is a great size so you will most likely see someone you know on the way to class, but can also meet new people all the time. The one thing I would change is the heavy security. Elon is trying to change its appeal as a party school by increasing the number of security, and as a result cited almost half of the incoming freshman clas. In my building every suite has been busted with the exeption of one.The town of Elon is very small if you are looking for a bustling urban setting this is not for you. The town is basically the college with a few resturaunts and bars, but personally I like it this way because there is not a lot of distractions and older people always around campus. The biggest contraversy on campus was the public masturbater, who last year almost every weekend got away after exposing himself to a girl. There is a lot of school pride and almost everyone I met loves the school, but there is not a lot of pride in the sports team and althought you can get into the games, most people dont.

I love Elon. The school is so involved with the kids and vice versa. The student are also very nice and worldly. They play a big role in community service. The campus is beautiful and the party life is endless, but everyone still finishes all their work and does well in class.

The big picture is that everyone is nice and welcoming. Everyone is ready and willing to be friends with each other. My best experience was being a part of the step show party hop competition. I got to learn from the black fraternaty Kappa Alpha Psa how to step. It was so much fun and rewarding and imade great friends along the way. Also study abroad is huge at Elon. I went to Italy for Winter term and it was amazing, such a great experience and just enoug time to get it all in but not get homesick.

I remember my first day of school at Elon. I had no idea where my class was and basically was having a nervous breakdown, the room had changed and I was lost. I walked in to a stranger who immediately helped me. This is what everyday is like at Elon. You will always know someone, and will always be seeing a new face. However it doesn't feel that way. There are no strangers at Elon due to the fact that everyone is just so damn friendly.
