It is fun, and prepares you for the real world very well.

It is the most hands on school. FIT is known as a technical school where you can learn how things are made most specifically. Other Fashion schools in New York focus on drawing fashion figures which is somewhat useless in the industry today with the use of computer technology. Students who don't go to FIT don't really ever grasp how to make clothing, especially because they don't have the practice.

Michelle

It's very career oriented. There's a lot of oppurtunity and it's in a great location. There's a lot to do in the city, and there's acccess to many things. FIT has a lot of industry connections as well.

Samantha

What is most unique about my school, is that everyone is very focused, we do not have a lot of extra curricular activities, but we are still involved students. Students balance school, jobs, internships, and even a social life. With our professors being in their field they teach for more than 20 years, FIT teaches students responsibilities and prepares us for real world challenges. FIT not only has diversity of ethnicity, but of students, most students are older and are continuing or are going back for a second degree; these students are great inspiration and help towards other students.

Unlike other schools, you must declare a major upon entering your 1st semester. This allows the student to dive right into their concentration of study, as opposed to taking all liberal arts classes up front and then taking courses focusing on their major. At FIT, we're given a real chance to get our hands dirty and really get into what we want for a profession rather than eagerly waiting for 1-2 semesters.
