What are the academics like at George Washington University?

Zach

The school is chalenging and I have had some amazing professors. I have gotten a few bad ones aswell, but it hasn't detracted from the overall experience. The language departments are a little weak.

Catherine

My discussion classes are the classes that I feel where I learn the most because my teachers are able to know me and I can ask specific question. It is more hands on.

Ryan

great profs that arnt academics. they provide real world experience to supplement lectures. not some old man who has taught from the same book for 30 years.

Max

Many of the classes at GW are smaller and it is very easy to get to know your professors, but there are still many lecture halls for intro classes. The main positive of GW professors is that many are still active in the DC area and bring an aspect of real world experience unparralled by other schools. However, the draw back is that they are not as practiced in the classroom setting and this sometimes hurts their teaching ability.

Sarah

Classes are varied, they're usually stimulating but I've had a couple bad professors. Most of the student body talks about which professors are good and bad so you know going into class who to take.

Katie

It really depends on the program whats good here. Don't come here expecting to be in a great math program, but if you're into international affairs, journalism, history, etc you are at one of the best places in the world.

Katie

They are pretty good but sometimes there isn't enough student teacher interaction.

Todd

GW professors are incredibly difficult to get to know unless you are in a very small class. My favorite class is an honors class with 10 people, my worst class is every class that has more than 20 people which is most of the classes I have had to take. I think the students think they are competitive but no one really cares that much. Not many people talk in class just the few who think its annoying that everyone is so silent, i.e., me. The International Affairs department believes that it is more important than it is, so do the students.

Rebecca

People participate a lot. Very intellectual conversations. I think I am learning a lot that I can use practically in my future.

James

Manageable. Some professors with really good real life experience.
