This school has the stereotype of being ghetto. I have to admit that it can be ghetto at times, however you will encounter that in most universities. It all depends on the groups that you hang around.

The stereotype at GSU is that the majority of students are nontraditional (older working individuals going back to school after entering the workforce). This stereotype is not accurate at all! GSU has over 30,000 students, and most of the students I have encountered are traditional students fresh out of high school.

The stereotype is anyone can get into GSU, but it's not that way at all.

A stereotype of Georgia State University is that it is predominately a commuter school. Although this still holds true the nature of the campus is changing rapidly. GSU has opened up three new housing facilities plus a fraternity/sorority complex. This is putting more students on the campus of GSU and is helping it transition into a more traditional style campus.

Well, the stereotypes usually come from other students from various schools because they assume that we are a bit brash or rude simply because our school is located in a very urban area, Atlanta. Fortunately, this isn't true at all. Honestly, Georgia State (and I'm not just advertising) is a very placid, positive, and diversity school, which in some cases is very hard to find. Because you meet so many kind, intelligent people on campus, it would be hard not to make any friends and network. Also, there is hardly any space or time for students to classify or categorize each other, so everyone gets to mix and mingle. Trust me, you should definitely visit.

Majority of the student population is very friendly! You will never walk down the street without waving to random people or even speaking to them.
