GSU was very nice as soon as I looked at the dorms and saw the students. It was very comfortable, the people seemed nice and it was just a great vibe. Their academic flexibility was what was interesting for me, because they have so many different colleges --- even a community college like facility called Perimeter college which I think is very beneficial for students who are not ready for a university or are not able to go straight to one because of their grades/credits. I applied for the honors college and early action application as soon as I got home from the college tour, so I hope that I get in because so far, no other school as matched my personality and my wants/needs like Georgia state.

my honest opinion about Georgia State University is that the academic environment is incredibly supportive and stimulating. The campus itself is beautiful and well-maintained providing a pleasant atmosphere. The library in particular is a fantastic resource, offering a vast collection of books and journals as well as quite study areas and collaborate spaces.

I am a third-year transfer student at Georgia State University. The professors here are helpful, and the office hours are beneficial. The class size may be large or small, depending on the course. My Organic Chemistry 2 class was large, but the office hours helped me, whereas the philosophy class was small, so there was more interaction with the professor.

It's a really good school overall especially with campus involvement. However, there is a lot of trash and homeless people around. It's extremely diverse which means that networking is very openly available. Great for creatives and those who wanna start making their own way in the city of opportunity.

My opinion of Georgia Stare is that it is a decent school in not so safe neighborhood. Downtown Atlanta has a lot of dangerous parts. The ships around are decent but it is most convenient if you have a car. Without a car, you will not feel like going to most of the shops around campus. But overall the school is decent

I think that Georgia State University is a good school, academic-wise. I have enjoyed the classes I have taken and have learned plenty. However, safety can often be an issue. There have been incidents and it can cause fear of being out and about in the evening.

It is a pretty good school with a lot of resources to help students with classes and post-graduation. There are issues with the buildings having water issues like flooding recently causing many people to be displaced and having one of the dinning halls down. Besides that it's great and the workers here are great.

It is one of the best universities located in downtown Atlanta. But I prefer to live off campus. There are lots of homeless people around the area, but it is kind of a safe place than I can think of it. i have never had any problems so far.

I chose GSU because of its metropolitan location and educational opportunities. I was surprised by the student involvement and have found a supportive network. I am personally a member of a student organization and I appreciate the opportunities that are available for students.

I do believe that Georgia State University has many opportunities in both academics and extracurricular activities. Although sports are not my main priority, I am aware that my college is active in various sports. I was definitely a little uncomfortable and nervous at the start of college. Within a year, I felt more safe and welcomed. I’ve made friends I thought. I have been able to explore new places outside my campus. All my professors have been very interactive and helpful to all students! It will take time to get used to the environment, but overall a great school!

Parents are supposed to push you past your goals, or at least, that’s what I always believed. I was raised in the generation of “you can do anything if you put your mind to it.” My parents followed that philosophy, and they saw value in formal education. It was their love of passion for education that led me to my educational goals and set my eyes on Georgia state university. From as far back as I can remember, I knew I didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of my parents, at least not when it came to working. My father had worked in landscaping most his life and my mother had been a housewife since migrating from Mexico. They were both content with the simplicity of their lives and wanted the same for me. I remember my father telling me that college was “expensive”. I knew, however, that I wanted a career in the city that would be more challenging than simple farm life could provide. The only way to make that possible would be through formal education and a college degree. While my parents may not understand the cost of formal education, I know it is essential for my future. Georgia State University has helped me immensely by making me realize that without a strong support system I might not be as successful. In a way, this has been the strongest source of motivation. And for that, I am forever grateful.

Georgia State University is truly the worst school I've attended. I completed a full year of college courses that were all on the path to my major in high school, and I was still put in freshman classes for the first semester. The second semester was rough for me due to personal issues, and out of the 5 instructors that I emailed about my situation, 2 didn't respond and 1- the department head of her subject- was nonchalant and said the syllabus accounted for situations like mine which was not true. I was still eager to try the "real" college experience for the next semester, so I re-enrolled despite my grades. The bill ended up being too much for me, so I needed to withdraw. I got notifications for EVERYTHING else but the withdrawal period- which I later found buried in their convoluted website. I had to move out of housing and pay the bill for withdrawing. However, I later got charged nearly 3,000 for housing fees which included a fee I had already paid twice. The WORST things about this school is anything regarding finances. The financial aid department responded to none of the 2 emails I sent, the housing guy I was referred to never responded, and teachers will make you pay for books and programs only to say they won't be using them later. I almost couldn't re-enroll because of a hold that they refer you to the financial aid office to get removed, and when they FINALLY picked up, even they seemed confused until I was informed I had to take a financial counseling session online- which was extremely hard to find with no direction. When I told them it was completed, they told me to wait 2-3 business. They didn't tell me what for, and when I asked, they just said it was for Panther Answer to respond to this case. This school has nonchalant and unaware professors, a TERRIBLE financial aid department, and made me despise college. The only good thing I can say is that this experience has led me to searching for trade schools and/or certifications for what I truly want to do now.

I really love this school. If you like the city life, this school is definitely for you. It is also one of the most diverse schools in the nation, and I am very proud to say I go to Georgia State University. They provide many opportunities here with tons of majors and minors and the extracurricular activities are amazing.

Georgia State University is an amazing school. I love the diversity within the school and the people. Its always a place for everybody. No one would ever be left out. Therees a variety of things to be interested in and try new things. The alumnus and staff do a really good job of making incoming students feel welcome. Its a great place to network and find great opportunities. Its overall just a great experience.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Dear Juan,
This is your future self writing to you. I know that you have selected certain choices regarding your future and how you view your outlook on life. You feel that life is to harsh and that it is very difficult for the poor class to even think of going to college. I know that you may think college is to difficult and expensive and beyond your reach. You will by this time have opted to go to the military in the hopes of paying for college this way, you will also make a priority to try and get a vehicle before going to college. I am writing this letter to you to try and convince you otherwise. The fafsa will assist you with 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of your financial need. You will also be able to borrow funds through subsudized loans. This funds borrowed will be much cheaper then purchasing that vehicle that will break down on you in 5 years and will be unusable. I urge you my past self to change your plans and go to college right after high school as this will be the best course of action for you.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
This school has a lot of research opportunities. Furthermore, the careercenter has a lot of opportunities and preparation for like after university. There are also many programs for lower income students, single parents, and/or non-traditional students. I especially love the diversity of the campus and the plethora of major options.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating part of Georgia State is the amount of people and the size of the univeristy. The university is too small, and the amount of students attending is far more than the university can hold. For instance, during finals week at Georgia State, there is absolutely no room in the library to study from 10am-3pm. The amount of students in the classes are also huge, which makes it hard to meet with professors and get the right amount of help while also making impossible for a professor to remember who you are.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype at GSU is that the majority of students are nontraditional (older working individuals going back to school after entering the workforce). This stereotype is not accurate at all! GSU has over 30,000 students, and most of the students I have encountered are traditional students fresh out of high school.
I consider the academics at my school above average. Professors generally know me by my name. My favorite classes are the ones for my major which is psychology. My least favorite classes are those dealing with global issues and other political science topics. Students do not study as much as they need to. Seniors study the most and then it declines with class. Class participation is very, very common. Students do engage in intellectual conversations outside of class often. Students do tend to be secrety competitive which only motivates them to do better and excel. The most unique class I have ever taken was one abroad in Ireland which was titled the psychological causes and consequences of terorrism. Psychology is thought to be an easy subject, but is actually a very challenging major. Towards your upper level classes, writing becomes more intense and so does the sunject matter. The psychology department provides lots of opportunities to get involved with doing things towards your psychology career. I normally do not spend time with my professors outside of class. I feel the school's academic requirements is normal. The education at this school is geared towards learning I think more so than getting a job. I thik this also depends on your major, for psychology is useful information in life in general.
Georgia State University is what keeps downtown Atlanta alive. Most of the businesses around the campus open and close with the university. Many of the corporations in Atlanta provide connections for many of the students and eventually become our employers. Though enrollment has been increasing each year, causing the campus to be a little overcrowded, there is no doubt that attending Georgia State University can result in you making lasting connections, no matter your major. There are plenty of areas on campus that service the students' needs whether we need to study, eat, watch TV, workout, get homework done, or take a nap between classes. Because we are what keeps downtown Atlanta alive, the school pride is immense as we cheer on your athletic teams, especially the new football team and the basketball team. With so much variety at Georgia State, it is often hard to feel out of place.
Many students attend sports events on campus, but since we were founded as a commuter school, not many students regularly attend games. Are football team is new and is working out the kinks. However, our volleyball teams and basketball teams have more successful records.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
